Based upon a study of the embryologic anatomy of the external ear, the
authors have suggested that the antitragus muscle be called the auric
ularis inferioris muscle which has a double nerve supply and a double
function. Abnormal traction of this muscle can vary the final shape of
the ear, dragging the border of the antitragus downward and everting
it. This scaphoid and prominent ear deformity can be corrected by prec
ise surgery described here by the authors.
