Ochratoxin A has been determined in the sera of healthy volunteer bloo
d donors and ill persons. The polyclonal antibody-based ELISA techniqu
e was used for screening. Ochratoxin-A could be detected in the sera o
f many healthy volunteer blood donors. The rate of the ochratoxin-posi
tive sera was high (73.74 %) with about 20 % difference between blood
donors and ill persons. No correlation could be detected between the s
erum-level of Ochratoxin A and the different types of diseases. The te
sting of the monoclonal antibody-based ELISA technique (Toxiklon OA en
zyme immunoassay kit Agricultural Biotechnology Center, Godollo, Hunga
ry) and confirmation of the positive samples with HPLC are in progress
.
