Abstract
This paper is a short comment about the paper ''stress propagation and arching in static sandpiles'' by Wittmer, Cates and Claudin [1]. It c oncerns the validity of the radial stress field (RSF) scaling assumpti on used to calculate the stress distribution in a conic granular mater ial and its agreement with different experimental data.
