Abstract
New conditions are suggested for the existence of solutions of two-poi nt boundary-value problems. The situation is studied when monotone bou nds of nonlinear terms do not guarantee the solvability of the problem s. The approach developed is a combination of variational methods, sim ple fixed point principles, and methods of partially ordered spaces.
