Electrochemical properties of several N-substituted 2-amino-3-chloro-1
,4-naphthoquinones in acetonitrile (with tetrabutylammonium tetrafluor
oborate as the supporting electrolyte) are studied by the cyclic volta
mmetry and rotating ring-disk electrode methods. It is shown that the
electrochemical reduction of these compounds yields stable radical ani
ons and dianions. A simple voltammetric method is proposed for estimat
ing the reactivity of quinones with respect to the radical anion of ox
ygen.
