The transport and electroluminescence properties of siloxene (Si6O3H6)
in the as-prepared and annealed states are investigated. As-prepared
siloxene is found to show a low dark conductivity (approximate to 10(-
19) Ohm cm(-1)) at room temperature which is thermally activated with
an activation energy that is approximately half of the optical gap of
siloxene (approximate to 2.6 eV). The presence of ambient gases can in
crease the dark conductivity due to intercalation of gas molecules bet
ween the two-dimensional siloxene polymer sheets. The photoconductivit
y of siloxene is investigated with respect to its spectral and tempera
ture dependences. Electroluminescence of siloxene is found for suffici
ently high current levels. (C) 1997 American Institute of Physics. [S0
