Sj. Westerman et al., INVESTIGATING THE HUMAN-COMPUTER INTERFACE USING THE DATALOGGER, Behavior research methods, instruments, & computers, 28(4), 1996, pp. 603-606
Methods of gathering user input data for investigations into human-com
puter interaction are considered. These include the use of human monit
ors, ''instrumentation'' of computer programs, and the use of ''backgr
ound'' keylogging software. The Datalogger is presented as an example
of the latter method, which provides a time-stamped record of keypress
es and mouse movement and allows the outcomes of user actions to be re
played.
