Abstract
We present theoretical studies of phonon modes of undoped HgI2 in its red tetragonal form. A rigid-ion model including the Coulomb interacti on is used which gives the best fit to the neutron scattering, infrare d reflectivity, and Raman scattering data. The calculated sound veloci ties are also in accord with experiment.
