Abstract
A method, using the Lanczos diagonalization technique and random sampl ing, is introduced to evaluate finite-temperature static and dynamical quantities in small many-body quantum systems. As an example the meth od is applied to the calculation of the optical conductivity of a sing le charge-carrier hole in the system of strongly correlated electrons, as decribed by the t-J model.
