Abstract
The anionic polymer, sodium polystyrene p-sulphonate (PSSNa), was labe lled with iodine-125. Standard radio-iodination for proteins proceeds via phenol groups. As PSSNa contains no phenolic functions these were introduced by reaction with sodium hydroxide. The optimized conditions gave barely discernible phenolic incorporation so the properties of t he bulk PSSNa were not noticeably altered. The modified PSSNa was then radio-iodinated by the standard technique. The yield, activity and st ability of the product were determined by size exclusion chromatograph y.
