Abstract
Benzyl alcohols react selectively with different nitriles in the prese nce of a catalytic amount of boron trifluoride and produce amides in h igh yields. Deactivated p-nitrobenzyl, allylic, primary, secondary, an d tertiary saturated alcohols do not react.
