Abstract
The SSU rRNA gene of the extremely thermophilic bacterium strain AZ3 B .1, encodes an rRNA containing four large inserts. A secondary structu re model has been constructed which predicts that the inserts form lar ge stem loop structures with a common sequence motif at the base of th e helices. To date, these structures have only been detected in relate d, thermophilic organisms.
