Abstract
A delta-function peak in the specific heat is observed at the melting point T-m of the flux lattice in high-T-c superconductors. It is 18.5k (B) and 17.5k(B) in the liquid and the solid phases per flux per layer , respectively, and increases to 23k(B) in Delta T = 0.009T(m) around T-m. At T-m the system changes from the triangular flux lattice to a d ecoupled 2D liquid of vortices. The latent heat is 0.07k(B)T(m), per A ux per layer.
