T. Oriordan et R. Ward, BUILDING TRUST IN SHORELINE MANAGEMENT - CREATING PARTICIPATORY CONSULTATION IN SHORELINE MANAGEMENT PLANS, Land use policy, 14(4), 1997, pp. 257-276
This article canvasses the arguments in favour of a more active and co
nciliatory approach to consultation than is generally the case for res
ource allocation and environmental decision-making in the UK, It looks
at the experience of consultation in shoreline management and flood d
efence decision-making in East Anglia, England, It concludes that ther
e are many different ways of conducting and justifying mediation, but
that there are strong social, political and economic arguments for wid
ening the consultative arrangements and ensuring a more face to face p
articipatory role for representative interests. (C) 1997 Elsevier Scie
