Abstract
We investigate theoretically several postulated processes for homogeni zation of a multilayer by diffusion along a moving grain boundary. Bot h the velocity and the shape of the moving grain boundary are investig ated. We show the possible existence of a ''fingering instability'' of the moving grain boundary leading to partial homogenization of the mu ltilayer. (C) 1997 Acta Metallurgica Inc.
