A new H+ ion conducting polymer electrolyte has been developed by comp
lexing NH4SCN in a polyethylene succinate matrix. XRD, IR and DTA stud
ies have been carried out to understand the complexation. The values o
f various transferance numbers are: total t(ion) approximate to 0.96,
t(H+) approximate to 0.87, t(anion) approximate to 0.09, t(e/h) approx
imate to 0.04. The complex impedance/admittance method has been used t
o study the bulk conductivity as a function of composition (i.e. NH4+/
ESc ratio) temperature and relative humidity. The PESc:NH4SCN complex
with NH4+/ESc approximate to 0.87 had the best conductivity (10(-4) 8
cm(-1)) at room temperature.
