A review is offered of the current knowledge of carbon nanotubes-parti
cles of cylindrical shape made of one or several concentric graphite l
ayers. Nanotube fabrication techniques are considered and possible nan
otube structures analysed. Data on electrical and magnetic properties
are presented. Relation between electrical properties and structure (i
n particular, chirality) is emphasized. Potential applications in nano
electronics and other active areas of research and technology are disc
ussed.
