Abstract
A general assessment model for shallow lakes is reported. The specific characteristic of the model is the explicit consideration of the poll utant speciation and the presence of fuel particles in the Chernobyl f allout. The model performance is analysed in terms of ignored processe s, parameters uncertainty and poor knowledge of some site-specific inf ormation.
