Decision support systems use a quantity of more or less uncertain data
and information. Methods are needed to quantify at least in some qual
itative manner the uncertainties of the results from decision support
systems. Especially during the early phase of an accident, important d
ecisions have to be made from forecasts on the source term and weather
conditions. Accident analyses may be used to derive source term model
s as well as accident instrumentation providing the data needed to use
these models. Determinations of accuracy of models and measuring resu
lts must be used to estimate the confidence of accident mitigation mea
sures, recommended by a decision support system.
