This research is focused on biostratigraphic and palaeomagnetic correl
ations of Upper Cenozoic mammalian localities of Central Asia in the t
erritory of Tadjikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and southern Kazakhsta
n. The absence of the lithological markers and absolute dates emphasiz
es the true importance of using bio-magnetic evidence for stratigraphy
of terrestrial molasse. Late Turolian, Villafranchian and middle Plei
stocene faunal assemblages are recorded in Central Asian localities pr
oviding a good basis for a broad interregional stratigraphic correlati
on. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
