Abstract
This paper presents the results of the world's first studies with glas s melts under space conditions. The influence of space factors on glas s melts is evaluated. It is shown that there is an improvement in the properties of a number of practical glasses obtained under space condi tions. A design has been developed for the crucibleless production of optical materials under conditions of weightlessness. (C) 1997 The Opt ical Society of America.
