Js. Watson, CONSTANT-PATTERN ADSORPTION FRONTS WITH MASS-TRANSFER RESISTANCES IN BOTH SOLID AND FLUID FILMS, Separation science and technology, 32(16), 1997, pp. 2607-2621
The shape and width of constant-pattern adsorption fronts can be predi
cted by relatively simple graphical/numerical methods analogous to met
hods used for analyzing concentration profiles in countercurrent extra
ction or adsorption systems when there is significant mass transfer re
sistance in both the fluid and solid film. This paper presents an exte
nsion of procedures described by the author for predicting constant-pa
ttern fronts with film resistance in only one phase. The procedure is
illustrated for systems with Langmuir isotherms, and the results are s
hown in a series of dimensionless figures that cover a wide range of e
quilibrium conditions and mass transfer coefficients.
