Damped pH oscillations have been measured in the unbuffered reaction m
ixture of H2O2-SO32--H+-Fe-(CN)(6)(4-) in a semibatch reactor when all
the reagents were simultaneously flowed, at a constant controlled rat
e, into the reactor containing pure water in the beginning. Oscillatio
ns occurred within a limited range of the ratio of incoming reagent co
ncentrations: 1.1 < [H2O2](0)/[SO32-](0) < 1.4; [Fe(CN)(6)(4-)](0)/[H](0) > 1.0; [SO32-](0)/ [H+](0) > 2. The known simple model, consistin
g of the empirical rate laws of the component reactions, has successfu
lly been used to simulate the dynamical behavior.
