In our present study, the anomalous variation in temperature coefficie
nt and permittivity of (Ba1-xSrx)(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O-3 (BSZN) with chemical
composition was investigated with respect to the order-disorder behavi
or of the system. It was observed that dielectric properties such as p
ermittivity, temperature coefficient, and quality factor revealed syst
ematic variation not only with composition but also with sintering tem
perature. The origin of the latter variation was ascribed to the chang
e in bond character accompanied by the order-disorder behavior. With t
he aid of X-ray diffraction accompanied by a critical review of previo
us research, it is suggested that a short-range modulation of crystal
structure rather than a change in long-range crystal structure is the
origin of the temperature coefficient and permittivity anomalies appar
ent in the BSZN system.
