Inclusions bordered by a membrane with attached ribosomes and containi
ng fine curved filaments were revealed by electron microscopy in ultra
thin sections of ryegrass leaf cells affected by viruslike spot mosaic
. The 4-6 nm filaments are two to three times thinner than most rod-sh
aped and filamentous viruses. By size, they are similar to virions of
the rice stripe tenuivirus group and may belong to it.
