A 53-year-old man presented for evaluation of erythematous plaques ove
r the trunk which had been present for several months. The lesions wer
e asymptomatic and were not changing in appearance or number. The pati
ent was in otherwise good health and had no history of dermatologic pr
oblems. Significant physical findings were well-defined, elongated, er
ythematous plaques lying in parallel along both sides of the lower tru
nk (Figs 1a and 1b). There was no lymphadenopathy or visceral enlargem
ent. A skin biopsy showed a lymphocytic perivascular infiltrate with e
pidermal spongiosis, acanthosis, and parakeratosis. On the basis of th
e clinical and histopathologic findings, and diagnosis of digitate der
matosis was established and the patient has done well without treatmen
t.
