alpha,omega-Dicarboxylic acid dimethyl esters are easily obtained by r
ing cleavage of alpha-nitrocycloalkanones. Thus, reaction of the latte
r compounds with three equivalents of potassium persulfate, in methano
l and in presence of sulfuric acid at 80 degrees C, provides alpha,ome
ga-dicarboxylic acid dimethyl esters in high yields. Long-chain, and a
lkylated alpha,omega-dicarboxylic acid dimethyl esters can be also eff
