Surface heat flux, friction velocity, Oboukhov's scale, the height of
zero heat flux, and the depth of the atmospheric boundary layer were e
stimated from the data of sodar profile measurements of wind velocity,
variance of the vertical wind velocity, and temperature structure par
ameter under developed convection at the center of Moscow. The estimat
es obtained show poor agreement with each other, which differs conside
rably from the results of similar measurements taken over a uniform te
rrain. This disagreement is apparently due to the invalidity of simila
rity theory in modeling the structure of the atmospheric boundary laye
r over a city.
