The kinetics of CO oxidation by O-2 over NiO/Al2O5 solids were studied
using a static method. The extent of NiO was varied between 0.16 to 0
.96 mole: 1 mole Al2O3. The effects of precalcination temperature in a
ir and preheating in presence of CO or O-2 on the catalytic activities
of the investigated solids were also studied. The influence of prehea
ting of the Al2O3 support on the catalytic activities of NiO/Al2O3 sol
ids was also investigated. The different kinetic parameters of the cat
alytic reaction namely; overall order, initial order, partial order wi
th respect to CO and O-2 and apparent activation energy (Delta E) of t
he catalytic reaction were determined. The results showed that the ove
rall order of reaction was one in all cases, the initial order was not
nil. The partial order with respect to O-2 was 2 and was -1 with resp
ect to CO so the general rate equation is given by dP(co2)/dt = k(Po-2
)(2)/P-co. The calculated Delta E values was found to increase by incr
easing the precalcination temperature of the Al2O3 support and decreas
ed by increasing the NiO content.
