The northern leopard frog, Rana pipiens, is vulnerable to a herpesviru
s-induced renal tumor. The Lucke renal adenocarcinoma is metastatic as
a function of temperature. The cloning procedure of nuclear transplan
tation has been used to study the differentiation potential of the tum
or genome. This paper summarizes current studies of the pathology, vir
ology, and differentiation competence of the Lucke tumor. (C) 1997 Wil
