An exploratory test program was designed to determine the expansive po
tential of portland cement mortar due to internal sulfate attack initi
ally moist-cured at high temperature. Expansion of cement mortars made
with six different portland cements was measured. The effect of diffe
rent test parameters, such as, pre-storage time, curing temperature, t
ype of sand, sand/cement ratio, specimen size and pre-treatment, on ex
pansion behavior was determined. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
