Raw pilu fat (Salvadora oleoids) after refining by physical and chemic
al method was subjected to alkali catalytic aminolysis reaction with d
iethanolamine to yield N,N-bis (2-hydroxyethyl) fatty amides. These fa
tty diethanolamides have been characterised by physical, chemical, and
IR methods. Various surface active properties of these amides have be
en studied and compared with those of coconut diethanolamides derived
under exactly identical reaction conditions from refined coconut oil.
