Dementia in general and Alzheimer's disease in particular represent co nditions where new findings are being made rapidly. Some of these deve lopments will lead to progress of increasing clinical value to patient s and their carers. This review will begin with some general points ab out dementia before considering current developments in Alzheimer's di sease and other specific dementias in more detail.
