Abstract
In the green macroalga Enteromorpha intestinalis (L.) Link, only one f orm of alpha-1,4-glucan phosphorylase was detected by activity stainin g. By immunogold labeling and transmission electron microscopy, this f orm of phosphorylase was found to be localized in the pyrenoid of the chloroplast of the algal cell. No specific phosphorylase label was ass ociated with the stroma of the chloroplast, the nucleus or the rest of the cell. The possible role of this pyrenoidal phosphorylase in starc h metabolism is discussed.
