C. Borras et al., MECHANISTIC ASPECTS OF THE ELECTROCHEMICAL FORMATION OF POLYVERATROLE, Journal of the Electrochemical Society, 144(11), 1997, pp. 3871-3877
Two layers with different morphologies are observed on a platinum surf
ace when 1,2-dimethoxybenzene (Veratrole) is oxidized in CH3CN/Bu4NBF4
. The inner layer is composed by several smooth, uniform thin films th
at are formed by instantaneous nucleation followed by bidimensional gr
owth, while the external layer is formed according to instantaneous nu
cleation-unidimensional growth and has a fibrillar morphology: As the
material grows on the electrode surface, oscillations are observed dur
ing chronoamperometry and they are related to the formation of a multi
layer and coalescence of fibrils. In situ UV-visible spectroelectroche
mical measurements allowed us to identify intermediate species and sug
gest a reaction scheme that supports the stacking structure we have re
ported in former papers.
