This paper deals with the degradation of the two way shape memory effe
ct during thermal cycling between different temperatures. The alloy wi
th composition Cu-20.4Zn-5.6Al (wt%) shows a comparative degradation b
ehavior of the two way shape memory effect obtained by different metho
ds. The mechanisms are different for different training routines. The
constrained thermal cycling training is related to stabilized martensi
te, and the combined stress induced martensite and shape memory effect
training mainly results in suitable dislocation arrays. (C) 1997 Else
