Abstract
The AIDS pandemic has stimulated interdisciplinary investigations unpr ecedented in the study of illicit drug use. Investigators, in order to increase understanding of the multiple facets of HIV-related disease, can supplement longitudinal investigations with other study designs t hat yield additional information about HIV. Epidemiologic methods such as the nested case-control study can enhance traditional drug use res earch methodologies and broaden the research questions that can be add ressed.
