Dd. Chitwood et al., STRATEGIES FOR ENHANCING EXISTING STUDIES OF THE NATURAL-HISTORY OF HIV-1 INFECTION AMONG DRUG-USERS, Substance use & misuse, 32(12-13), 1997, pp. 1691-1696
The AIDS pandemic has stimulated interdisciplinary investigations unpr
ecedented in the study of illicit drug use. Investigators, in order to
increase understanding of the multiple facets of HIV-related disease,
can supplement longitudinal investigations with other study designs t
hat yield additional information about HIV. Epidemiologic methods such
as the nested case-control study can enhance traditional drug use res
earch methodologies and broaden the research questions that can be add
ressed.
