Abstract
A brief review of the stability of linear systems acted upon by potent ial and gyroscopic forces is given. Some assertions on the stability o f these systems are proved using Lyapunov's direct method. In particul ar, the necessary and sufficient conditions of stability for the syste ms investigated previously in [1, 2] are obtained. (C) 1997 Elsevier S cience Ltd. All rights reserved.
