Y. Chavkin et al., CONSERVATIVE TREATMENT WITH SUCCESSFUL OUTCOME OF A TRIPLET PREGNANCYAFTER THE MISCARRIAGE OF ONE FETUS IN THE 2ND TRIMESTER, International journal of gynaecology and obstetrics, 44(2), 1994, pp. 161-163
Due to the increased availability of infertility treatment, multiple p
regnancies, with various resulting complications have become more comm
on. A woman in the 19th week of a triplet pregnancy came to the hospit
al after the miscarriage of one of the fetuses at home. In keeping wit
h our philosophy of minimal intervention in childbirth, we treated the
woman conservatively. After confirming that the remaining two fetuses
were in good condition, the woman was released home under ambulatory
observation, with no antibiotics or tocolytic drugs. No further compli
cations developed, and the woman gave birth in her 31st week to health
y twin girls 82 days later. The successful outcome of this case demons
trates that non-interventional, conservative methods could be a feasib
le alternative to invasive intervention. We hope that our case will en
courage more physicians to try out and report noninterventional method
s, so that enough information could be gathered to help make correct m
anagement decisions in the future.
