Heat capacity properties of a new inclusion complex ZnS23.4. 8 beta-cy
clodextrin . 6H(2)O and a mechanical mixture of ZnS and beta-cyclodext
rin were investigated in the range of 80 similar to 350 K by means of
a miniaturized adiabatic calorimeter with a precision of +/-0.2%. Glas
s transition phenomena were observed in relation to the freezing of co
nfigurational change of the protons engaged in the four-membered hydro
gen-bonded ring. The difference in heat capacities of the two samples
was thermodynamically accounted for in terms of quantum size effect an
d interfacial effect.
