P300 examination was performed in patients with periventricular leukoa
raiosis and in patients with leukoaraiosis in die centrum semiovale. T
en patients with periventricular leukoaraiosis, ten patients with leuk
oaraiosis in centrum semiovale and ten age-matched controls without le
ukoaraiosis were studied. The P300 was measured with an evoked potenti
al recorder using an oddball paradigm. The mini-mental state examinati
on score was significantly lower and the P300 latency was significantl
y longer in the leukoaraiosis in the centrum semiovale group than in t
he periventricular leukoaraiosis group and the control group. Leukoara
iosis in centrum semiovale may be related to dementia and the prolonga
tion of P300 latency.
