Structures of non-statistical character, recently observed in Ni-58 Ti-46 elastic and Ni-58 + Ni-62 elastic and inelastic excitation funct
ions, produce damped oscillations in the cross section energy autocorr
elation functions. The analysis of these damped oscillations in terms
of S-matrix spin and parity decoherence indicates, as a possible inter
pretation, damping of the coherent rotational motion of the intermedia
te dinuclear system formed in the reaction.
