T. Srinivas et al., EFFECT OF BOTANICALS AND CHEMICALS ON THE MANAGEMENT OF BLIGHT (ALTERNARIA-ALTERNATA, ALTERNARIA-HELIANTHI) OF SUNFLOWER (HELIANTHUS-ANNUUS), Zeitschrift fur Pflanzenkrankheiten und Pflanzenschutz, 104(5), 1997, pp. 523-527
Efforts have been made to study the effects of some botanicals and che
micals on the management of blight (Alternaria alternata and A. helian
thi) of sunflower (Helianthus annuus). Results indicated that aspirin
was highly effective in inhibiting the mycelial growth of A. alternata
, while Allium repa accelerated the growth. On the other hand, additio
n of dextrose to the medium, carbendazim and Allium sativum were inhib
itory to A. helianthi. Studies also indicated that foliar application
of Allium sativum bulb extracts at 1 % concentration was significantly
superior in controlling the disease and increasing the yield and was
on par with carbendazim 1 % a. i.. KCI (soil application) and azadirac
htin also reduced the disease intensity and increased the yield over c
ontrol.
