C. Wang et al., IMPROVEMENT OF CYCLING PERFORMANCE OF A LITHIUM ANODE BY THE ADDITIONOF DIPYRIDYL DERIVATIVES, Denki Kagaku Oyobi Kogyo Butsuri Kagaku, 65(11), 1997, pp. 941-948
Effect of the addition of dipyridyl analogs to 1 M LiPF6-ethylene carb
onate (EC)/dimethyl carbonate (DMC) (1:2 in volume) on the cycling beh
avior of Lithium metal anode has been studied, The cycle life of lithi
um anode in single cell test is improved to about 1.4 times by the add
ition of 4,4'-dipyridyl to the electrolyte, The improvement in cycling
performance by the addition of dipyridyls is mainly interpreted in te
rms of the change in morphology of lithium deposit from the aggregate
of particle shape dendrite to relatively smooth and fat one by scannin
g electron microscope (SEM) observation. Such morphology would be suit
able for the lithium anode with excellent performance, On the practica
l battery test using LiMn2O4 as a cathode, the cycle life of Li/LiMn2O
4 cell at 30 degrees C was increased two times by the addition of 4,4'
-dipyridyl to the electrolyte compared with additive-free electrolyte
at current density of 0.4 mA/cm(2).
