Communication: A quasi-planar dithiadiazafulvalene (DTDAF) with high e
lectrondonating properties is reported. The chemical synthesis of a ph
enyl-N,N'-bridge DTDAF (the Figure shows an ORTEP drawing of the DTDAF
(+.) cation radical) is described together with the preparation of a c
harge-transfer salt by in situ trapping and investigations of the stru
ctural and magnetic properties of this salt. Evidence for mixed valenc
e states is presented.
