Hb. Wan et al., SIMPLE METHOD FOR PREVENTING UNSUITABLE SOLVENTS FROM ENTERING GAS-CHROMATOGRAPHIC DETECTORS, Journal of chromatography, 663(1), 1994, pp. 123-126
A simple method for preventing unsuitable solvents and other substance
s from entering gas chromatographic detectors is described. A split ve
nt was constructed by connecting the outlet of the column to the unuse
d injector and the detector with a press-tight Y-splitter and two shor
t capillary columns. Unsuitable solvents and other substances can be d
ischarged through the unused injector by keeping the injector open for
a few minutes. When the nut on the injector is tightened, all the eff
luent from the analytical column enters the detector. Use of this spli
t vent can avoid or reduce the adverse effects of unsuitable solvents
on the detector performance.
