Jh. Posthumus et al., THE ENHANCEMENT OF THE BINARY ENCOUNTER PEAK FOR Q=1 TO Z IN COLLISIONS OF FAST CQ+ AND OQ+ ON H2, Journal of physics. B, Atomic molecular and optical physics, 27(5), 1994, pp. 97-102
It was earlier found that the size of the binary encounter peak does n
ot show a q2 scaling (q is the ionic charge) for partially stripped io
ns, but instead increases with the number of electrons carried by the
projectile. Measurements of this enhancement of the binary encounter p
eak for collisions of fast C(q+) and O(q+) on H-2 have for the first t
ime been extended to the lowest ionic charge state. We get the surpris
ing result that the enhancement for q = 1 is smaller than for q = 2.
