Quantum calculations have been carried out on the vibrational and rota
tional excitation processes for CO molecules in collision with positro
n projectiles below the threshold of Ps formation (E(coll)less than or
equal to 7 eV). The coupled equations have been solved for the vibrat
ionally inelastic process in the body-fixed frame of reference, and Bo
rn-type corrections for the divergent behavior of the angular distribu
tions due to the permanent molecular dipole have been applied. Detaile
d comparisons are made between the partial (rotational and/or vibratio
nal) integral and differential cross sections and earlier available ca
