Mj. Steel et Df. Walls, INFLUENCE OF PUMPING ON THE RELATIVE PHASE OF TWIN-TRAP BOSE-EINSTEINCONDENSATES, Physical review. A, 56(5), 1997, pp. 3832-3839
We consider extensions of the twin-trap Bose-Einstein condensate syste
m of Javanainen and Yoo [Phys. Rev. Lett. 76, 161 (1996)] to include p
umping from thermal atom baths as a simple example of an inexhaustible
source of coherent atoms. We study this system for two forms of therm
al pumping, both with and without the influence of interatomic collisi
ons. In the presence of pumping, the detection process is still able t
o stabilize the relative phase of the condensates against the diffusio
n induced by the collisions. We also examine the effects of pumping on
the phenomenon of collapses and revivals of the relative phase betwee
n the condensates.
