Abstract
We have analyzed the compositional properties of coding (protein encod ing) and non-coding sequences of Plasmodium falciparum, a unicellular parasite characterized by an extremely AT-rich genome. GC% levels, bas e and dinucleotide frequencies were studied. We found that among the v arious factors that contribute to the properties of the sequences anal yzed, the most relevant are the compositional constraints which operat e on the whole genome.
